“For I was sick and Republicans took my healthcare”

Here is a Biblical word for the Senate GOP: the poor are just as worthy of LIFE (and QUALITY of life) as the millionaires and billionaires you are protecting. We now have the Senate healthcare bill, which makes deep cuts to Medicaid and hurts the most vulnerable in America. Like the House bill, it is a giant giveaway to the rich at the expense of the poor, working poor, the disabled, elderly...the least of these. Every single Republican who would support this bill ought to be held accountable … [Read more...]

Word of Reflection After Alexandria Shooting

First, our prayers continue to go up for Steve Scalise and others shot yesterday in this attack. If it weren't for capitol police, this scene could have been a massacre, so God bless them for their bravery. Like we saw after Gabby Giffords, there is a mood of reflection and even a minute of unity in Washington where there has been none for too long. It is difficult at best to fight against a culture of extremism, propaganda and fake news when we have a president who has championed this. … [Read more...]

Paris Climate Agreement: Biblical Warnings Against Exploiting Creation

President Trump just announced he is exiting the Paris Climate Agreement, with the support of many Republicans.  Backing out of this agreement is a slap in the face to our closest allies, to our children, the health of the world's population and our economy. It is also a slap i the face to the majority of Americans who do support the climate accord. The fact that this has been done by men claiming to be Christians who love family and Biblical values is total hypocrisy. In this article … [Read more...]

The Truth About Christianity and Abortion

The Truth About Christianity and Abortion By Christina Forrester For Thousands of Years Christians Weren’t Concerned About Abortion. What Changed? Abortion is one of the most heated political, social and religious topics of our times. Hundreds of millions of dollars are spent each year by “right-to-life” groups to raise awareness, fight for more abortion restrictions in the United States and around the world, and to support “pro-life” political candidates. It could even be said that … [Read more...]

An Easter Reflection on the Love and Mercy of Jesus

DO WHAT YOU CAME HERE TO DO (FOR HOLY WEEK) by Pastor Jonathan Martin The King comes riding into Jerusalem, on the back of a borrowed donkey.  The man rides like an apology, a slapstick parody of power, a send-up of pomp and circumstance.  The man rides under the weight of all our collective loneliness, as well as his own.  With no stallion, no army, and no pretension, Love himself rides solo in the parade of powerlessness.  Royalty, at last, has no entourage. With apologies to Dante, … [Read more...]

Where is the “change of heart” for Syrian refugees?

by Christina Forrester  4/7/17  1:04pm In a fast-moving change of policy this week, President Trump and his administration have spoken out and taken bold action against Syrian dictator Assad after the brutal chemical weapons attack on civilians. Throughout the presidential campaign and since taking the oath of office, Trump has consistently defended dictators and has been willing to criticize our allies, and pretty much anyone else, except Putin and other dictators. We were glad to see Trump … [Read more...]

AG Sessions Promises to Blackmail Sanctuary Cities

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced today he’ll begin punishing sanctuary cities, withholding potentially billions of dollars in federal money — and even clawing back funds that had been doled out in the past. Speaking at the White House, Mr. Sessions said his department is preparing to dole out more than $4 billion in funds this year, but will try prevent any of it from going to sanctuaries. “Countless Americans would be alive today … if these policies of sanctuary cities were ended,” Mr. … [Read more...]

New GOP Obamacare Replacement Is Far From “Pro-Life,” Making the Vulnerable More Vulnerable

Republicans just released their replacement plan for the Affordable Care Act, and while they are set to keep some of the more popular parts of Obamacare, such as pre-existing conditions and allowing young adults to stay on their parents' plan, it also contains new laws that will make it harder for people who are low income to keep their health insurance and worse. Don't let the few popular provisions that the House GOP left in the Obamacare replacement fool you - this bill is just another … [Read more...]

Watch What They Do, Not What They Say

By Christina Forrester It was obvious President Trump had a different tone last night – that cannot be denied. The words were better, the presentation was better. Some of the ideas and rationale behind it were even good. Breaking the cycle of poverty? Yes, obviously, Democrats will get behind that. But I love what Rachel Maddow has been saying, and I have begun to adopt this same motto with this administration: “Watch what they do, not what they say.” Just hours before the “new tone” and … [Read more...]
